Doha, Qatar: The bilateral ties between Qatar and the United States remain strong as ever, with education being one of the strong pillars of the relationship, the United States Ambassador to Qatar, H E Timmy Davis, has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Career Counselors Hub 2023, recently organized by the Qatar Career Development Center in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and the US Embassy in Doha, H E Ambassador Davis noted that tens of thousands of Qataris - a significant percentage of the Qatari population - have already studied in the United States. And the numbers are expected to keep growing considering the strategic relationship between both countries.

He added that one of the aims of the US Embassy in participating in the Hub was to further create a common understanding and a common toolkit on how they can help Qatari students find their way in their academic pursuit.

Ambassador Davis noted the significance of career counsellors in assisting young Qatari students in pursuing their educational endeavours, whether it be a four-year course in the United States or within the country, and regardless of whether they choose to attend a community college or vocational school.

"These counsellors serve as valuable partners to both parents and educational institutions, ensuring that students with exceptional ambition and intelligence are guided towards a path that aligns with their career aspirations and overall life goals," he said.

“My hope is that, coming out of this conference, we will have that common vision. The US Embassy is here to help, to provide resources, and to provide time to make sure that we get the most impact and effect out of this conference,” he added.

Ambassador Davis noted that aside from the six US universities under the Qatar Foundation, Qatar University and other institutions also have strong partnerships with American universities.

“I can tell you that the Ministry of Defence has relationships with universities in the United States. Various other specific relationships have been built with universities in the United States. The truth is that we want to grow educational opportunities. We want individual Qataris to make decisions about what university and what experience is right for them. I mentioned that a number of leaders here in this country went to Eastern Washington University.” “A lot of Americans don’t know about Eastern Washington University, but it is a sign that those who attended the school from here made a decision about what educational experience was best for them. Our goal is to uncover all of those possibilities for Qatari youth,” he said.

“We invite Qatari students and youth to consider the United States, to consider our universities, and to start a conversation about it. We’re here to be part of that conversation because we think that dollar for dollar, pound for pound, US universities and colleges can provide exactly what a Qatari student needs,” Ambassador Davis added.
