DOHA: French jockey Stephan Ladjadj yesterday powered to three wins on the first day of the new season at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC), topping the fields in the prestigious Club Cup and Qatar Cup races.
Ladjadj guided Bin Amer over the finish line to win the QR 100,000 Club Cup - the feature race of the day - finishing ahead of David Bouland, riding Shakeemah, and third-placed Jelmud ridden by Marvin Suerland.
Earlier in race seven, Ladjajd rode Sydney Harbour with confidence, winning the Qatar Cup ahead of Chandlerly - ridden by So Golam - and Alkazim. Sydney Harbour stole the show in the QR100,00 race with a powerful surge in the last few meters in the 1600m dash.
“I feel good, I am fit. It has taken a long time for me to come back,” said Ladjajd while reflecting on his three wins.
“I am better now. I like it here. I actually feel very fit, ready for new season. I am slimmer. I am glad that I won the races,” he added.
In race six, Botanic Garden - ridden by Ladjadj - emerged winner with a sublime finish ahead of Elwazeer. Jockey Yanis Aouabed powered Elwazeer to second spot ahead of Carter-ridden Freckenham.
