DOHA: The International Diabetes Federation has elected Qatari Mohamed Khalid Al Saadi (pictured) from Qatar Diabetes Association as a Regional Chair for the Middle East and North Africa region/IDF.
He was elected during the Diabetes Congress now running in Vancouver. He is also the Diabetes Ambassador to Qatar and the region.
The Young Leaders in Diabetes programme aims to improve the lives of young people affected by the disease worldwide. It became a reality in Dubai in 2011 and now is the voice for young people affected by diabetes worldwide.
The Young Leaders are committed to raising awareness about the disease by being a powerful voice for prevention, education, access to quality care, improved quality of life, and the end of discrimination worldwide.
The programme supports IDF in reaching its strategic plans. It is governed by the YLD Executive Council of seven members and YLD Regional Council of 14.
The Regional Council is elected from the seven regions of IDF and the biennial Diabetes Congress elects a new president.
The main tasks of the Regional Council are to centralise information about the programme, organise meetings, strengthen links between IDF’s regional chapter and Young Leaders in the respective region. Activities including diabetes camps, walkathons and cycling for diabetes, social evenings and programmes on national TVs.
There are 132 Young Leaders acting on diabetes around the world.
