DOHA: A regional conference on foot and mouth disease organised by the Ministry of Environment opened yesterday.
Qatar has taken concrete measures for food security and to develop agricultural and animal projects, Dr Sheikh Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resource at the ministry, told the opening session.
Offering sufficient and safe food is one of the major challenges facing the world today, especially the Middle East, he said, adding several epidemic animal diseases are spreading in the region.
He stressed the need for regional and international cooperation to fight the diseases.
