Doha: Qatar National Library (QNL) will organise, from November 6-11, a special week of events celebrating the arts of Arabic calligraphy, in order to explore its present and future, and to shed light on the role of artificial intelligence in serving arts, culture and heritage.
The week of events will begin with the opening of registration for the Arabic calligraphy competition, provided that the owners of the 30 best works are tested to participate in the competition before announcing one winner at the end of the event.
On November 7, the library, in cooperation with the HBKU College of Science and Engineering, Dr. James She will give a talk on the latest developments of Artificial Intelligence technologies and will discuss how these can be applied in the arts and in the field of Arabic calligraphy in particular.
On Nov. 7, a session will talk about how to find Arabic calligraphy resources at the Library and highlight some books related to this beautiful art.
On this occasion, the Information Specialist at QNL Ahmed Al Naddaf highlighted the library’s commitment to preserving the Arab and Islamic heritage for future generations, indicating that Arabic calligraphy represents an essential aspect of the Arab heritage over tens of centuries, and in order to support this art and enhance awareness of the role of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence in its development, Qatar National Library looks forward to public interaction by attending and participating in these sessions.
This event will conclude on November 11 with a panel discussion entitled “Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Arts, Culture and Heritage” on the impact of artificial intelligence technology on the contemporary world and the fundamental changes it has brought about and new challenges in the fields of arts and humanities.
Experts participating in this symposium will discuss AI developments around the world and their wide-ranging cultural and societal implications.
