DOHA: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has opened a new power substation “Al Jahhaniya 3” at a cost of QR90m to supply electricity to Al Rayyan Stadium, a venue of hosting 2022 FIFA world Cup.

The new substation located in Al Jahhaniya near Qatar Mall is part of strategic projects of Kahramaa aims at implementing new projects and developing electricity networks to cater the key projects of country and specially those related hosting FIFA World Cup 2022.

The new substation with the capacity of 132/11 KV will supply 40MVA electricity.

“The new substation came into operation on May 30 to supply 40 MVA electricity to Al Rayyan Stadium,” said Eng Ahmad Al Kuwari, Head of the Projects Section at Kahramaa.

He said that the new power substation is one of the five major substations being built by Kahramaa for the stadiums of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

“Al Rayyan Stadium as per the specifications by Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy required 40 MVA to meet the necessary loads and those related to operating air-conditioners of the Stadium and its premises,” said Al Kuwari.

He said that Kahramaa is following the international standers and those required in Qatar to keep pace in providing  advanced electricity network in Qatar which became role models for regional countries.       

“The project of substation of Al Jahhaniya  3 was implemented by Siemens Company however electric cables were produced by Qatar Sweden Company for Cables. GE, a US company developed control system of new substation and connected to main control room of Kahramaa, said Al Kuwari.

He said that Kahramaa completed the projects ahead of schedule set up by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

Regarding the contribution of local company to the project, Al Kuwari said that civil works of the substation was done by a Qatari company “GCC”.

“The new substation of Al Jahhaniya 3 is third substation came into operation after Mehairja and Al Wukair substations,” said Al Kuwari adding that Al Hidan substation which will provide electricity to Al Bayt Stadium  in Al Khor is expected to commence by third quarter of this year.

He said that substation which will supply electricity to Ras Abu Aboud Stadium   will come into operation next year.
