Doha: Qatar Scientific Club is showcasing its various devices and equipment under its MakerSpace programme during the three-day Najah Qatari Forum which started on Thursday and will conclude today at Qatar National Convention Centre.
Speaking to The Peninsula, one of the volunteers of the club, Fateem Al Qahtani said that they have several equipment on display at their booth including two types of 3D printer for solid prototype and for printing flexible items.
“They can upload their design from our computer and it will be printed directly. You can use the equipment if you have a membership card which is free of charge. Once you have a card, you will have access to almost every device in the club,” she explained.
The booth also showcases Arduino, robotic UV light which is a new surface sanitisation technology developed in partnership with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) which was introduced late last year.
The world’s first smart educational prayer rug for every Muslim ‘Sajdah’ is also being exhibited at the booth. It teaches new Muslims how to pray properly through its LED screen.
It has an app to control the pace of the prayer guides, both downloadable on smartphone and smartwatch devices. Moreover, the prayer guide has available in English and Arabic languages.
MakerSpace is the most advanced, technological platform in the region. In 2021, it launched advancements that adopt fourth revolution in modern, digital technologies, and to enable the Internet of things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in designing and fabrication processes.
It has eight sections in total: Digital fabrication laboratory, Electronics and Telecommunications Laboratory, Robotics and AI Laboratory, Engineering Design Studio, Carpentry Workshop, Innovation Incubator, Project Implementation and Assembly Workshop, and Material Library.
Among the devices and equipment it currently house are Multi-Axis CNC Machine, Laser Device, 3D Printers, Vinyl Cutter, 3D Design Software, Robotic Arm, Wood Sawing Machine, Axial Cutting Device, 3D Scanners, Auxiliary Manual Machines, Electronic Circuit Fabrication Device, And Electronic And Telecommunications Devices.
The ‘Space’ is a smart factory that provides individual and group workspaces that help them innovate, create, generate, and implement projects. Its strategy is based on promoting the culture of innovative entrepreneurship which might be used as incubators and accelerators of emerging innovations. Moreover, it provides training and exchange of expertise and secured organised spaces according to the technical specialties, such as engineering design, digital manufacturing, modeling, electronics, communication, computing, robotics, AI and mechanical production.
