Doha, Qatar: Qatari composer Dana Al Fardan yesterday announced her next high profile European appearance at the 77th Estate Fiesolana – Teatro Romano di Fiesole, Tuscany, where she will perform her latest musical offering ‘INDIGO’ to the public for the first time on July 17, 2024.

Doha-born Dana addressed assembled media at the Teatro Della Pergola, Florence, confirming her performance at Italy’s oldest outdoor festival, where she is set to be joined by fellow musicians from the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and the La Filharmonie - Filarmonica de Firenze next month.

Set against the ancient surrounds of the Teatro Romano di Fiesole, situated just outside Florence, the collaboration will also feature artists from the Lyric Dance Company, headed by creative director and choreographer Alberto Canestro, and marks the historic first public performance of an artist from the Gulf region in the Roman amphitheatre.

Fresh from her recent milestone appearance as the first Gulf musician to perform at the star-studded Trophée Chopard Gala during the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May, this is the second time Dana has made musical history in 2024, as she continues to expand her flourishing presence across Europe with the critically-acclaimed ‘INDIGO’.

With its foundation in neoclassical music interposed with electronic elements, ‘INDIGO’ transcends conventional boundaries to create an unforgettable, immersive multi-sensory experience, merging sound and colour together.

“As one of Europe’s oldest and most established cultural events at one of Italy’s most beautiful and significant ancient sites, history is quite literally at the heart of the Estate Fiesolana story,” said Dana.

“It is so exciting to be able to create a new chapter in our shared creative journey as part of this pioneering collaboration between Qatari and Italian musicians and artists – a true merging of East meets West.

“I am also incredibly proud to have the opportunity to present ‘INDIGO’, which is an intensely personal and transformative piece of music, intended to guide audiences on an introspective path towards enlightenment.

“Each performance offers a different perspective, even to me as its composer, delving deeper and deeper into conventional boundaries to create an exploration of art, emotion and spirituality.

“I look forward to immersing myself into a new experience with the Fiesolana audience this summer.” As Italy’s longest-running, open-air multi-disciplinary festival, Estate Fiesolana has built a strong reputation as a showcase for top-quality musical and theatre performances since its launch at the stunning Roman amphitheatre Teatro Romano di Fiesole in 1947.

With a diverse repertoire spanning classical, electronic, and beyond, Dana continues to push the boundaries of musical expression, leaving an enduring legacy on the global stage.
