The Ministry of Interior  (MoI) is set to equip vehicles of Traffic Department, Lekhwiya and Al Fazaa with 4G-enabled cameras to check traffic violations, address emergency cases and provide more safety to residents.

The Telecommunication Department of the MoI has recently displayed the latest security programme called vehicle tracking and monitoring system. The 4G-enabled system will be able to take and send live video streams through the camera mounted on the vehicles.  This programme is the first of its kind in GCC countries and after its successful trials is expected to be implemented early next year, an official of the Ministry told The Peninsula.

Cameras to be mounted on Traffic Department, Lekhwiya and Al Fazaa vehicles. The system provides many services like registering traffic violations, road accidents, crimes etc. Traffic violation or crimes will be detected with the help of this system as it will assist authorities recognise the offenders.

It can also specify the exact place of the vehicles and the scene of the incident so that the authorities can send police,  ambulance or any other service required at the moment.

“Earlier we were depending only GPS and such system is very common in many countries. This new system is being employed by some countries including the United States. Lekhwiya will be able to get maximum benefit from this system,” the official added.

Another important programme recently displayed by National Command Centre (NCC) during Milipol Qatar exhibition was "Star of Performance" and its aim is to evaluate the speed of receiving reports.

The system receives all reports and transfers them to the concerned authorities. Daily one shift from 6am to 1pm receives 9,000 to 12,000 reports.

“Most of the people report about accidents. At NCC we receive all reports and transfer them to concerned authorities or from police department as it is supposed to report to NCC about every incident, said official.

“When concerned authorities receive the reports instantly from the NCC, the sign according to new Star of Performance system shows the blue color. In case, the concerned authorities are delaying in receiving reports, the system will caution us with other colors depending on how much time they are taking in receiving reports, ” he added.

"Since the beginning of 2016, we are working on this program and we can say that it helped us a lot to know about the speed of receiving reports from concerned department." The two programmes were displayed recently at the pavilion of the Ministry of Interior at Milipol Qatar 2016.
