20 falcons qualify in Al Daw Al Mahalli contests

Doha: A total of 20 falcons qualified in Al Daw Al Mahalli of Qarnas Hur and Farkh Hur categories of the competitions held yesterday.

The championship is being organised under the 13th Qatar International Falconry & Hunting Festival (Marmi), under the patronage of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. Organised by Qatar Al Gannas Society, the festival will continue until January 29.

Yesterday morning, the Al Tala’a Championship qualification round were held for groups from 21 to 25. The competitions resulted in the qualification of the two falconers: Sultan Ahmed Al Nuaimi from Group 21, Saleh Obaid Al Marri from Group 24, and Shaheen Salem Al Dosari from Group 25. Muhammad bin Mubarak Al Ali, Head of Al Tala’a Committee, said, “The fifth day’s competitions started in the midst of the wind, but the vision was clear.” 

He said that the competitions resulted in the qualification of three falconers, bringing the total number of qualified falconers so far to 11 in the competition. In the evening period of the fifth day of the Marmi Festival 2022, the first competition of Al Daw Al Mahalli competition for the categories Qarnas Hur and Farkh Hur 10 falcons qualified for each category, which achieved the best timing to reach the goal.

Shaheen Salem Shaheen Al Dosari said, “I am happy to qualify today, as I have been participating since 2016 and won first place in 2017 in Al Tala’a competition.”

He said that with the efforts of the organising committee and the competition for the Houbara, the contest became tougher as the committee is constantly working on developing the competition.

The qualifiers in Al Daw Al Malli championship in the categories Qarnas Hur and (Farkh Hur) said that they prepared well to compete in coming contests. They said that the wind tested the ability of falcons, their physical fitness and speed in reaching the goal, where important numbers were achieved despite the strong winds, valuing the role of Qatar Al Qannas society for supporting falconers.

Today the Al Tala’a Championship for groups from 26 to 30 will continue in the morning period, while the Hadad Al Tahaddi Championship will take place in the evening for the fifth group.
