Doha: More than 200,000 visitors are expected at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) Qatar edition, and about 1000 media representatives from all over the world will cover it, the organizers announced on Monday.
The first-of-its-kind motor show will take place from October 5 to 14, 2023, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) and several other major venues across Doha.
GIMS Qatar will be held to coincide with the 2023 Qatar Formula 1 Grand Prix on October 8. It is designed to be a groundbreaking, history-making motor show that brings together the biggest players in the global automotive industry in a truly immersive space.
"We are delighted to organize the region's first-ever Geneva International Motor Show Qatar edition. The event is designed to attract car enthusiasts not only in Qatar and the region but also from all over the world, especially Europe. The region is well-known for its love of cars, and GIMS Qatar is being organized to complement that passion while also creating a unique opportunity for the people to connect with their passion," said Sandro Mesquita, CEO of the Geneva International Motor Show.
Speaking about the features of the 10-day event, Mesquita said that aside from the main exhibition, which will take place at DECC, there will also be roadshows, test drives within the city as well as off-road test drives in the desert, and much more.
"There will also be a parade of excellence to celebrate the best of automotive, which will be held at the Corniche. It will be an opportunity to connect with the local community and other car enthusiasts who will be attending from different parts of the world," he added.
Mesquita added that in terms of exhibitors, the organizers have chosen the word "excellence" instead of "premium" or "luxury," as the exhibition will not only feature super and luxurious cars but also other kinds of cars.
"We are organizing an event that is for everybody, and as long as you are passionate about cars, there is something for you at GIMS Qatar. GIMS Qatar will be a true festival of global automotive events for more than a week, something that the region has never witnessed before," Mesquita noted.
In his presentation, Berthold Trenkel, the COO of Qatar Tourism, said that Qatar's well-recognized global reputation as a destination of repute for unique and top-notch events is being further enhanced with the Geneva International Motor Show Qatar edition.
"We are bringing a unique experience to the region to the delight of all automobile lovers. This is the first time in the region that an event of this nature is being organized to coincide with a Formula One Grand Prix, making it an experience of a lifetime for all participants. We look forward to welcoming everyone from all over the world," Trenkel said.
The newly curated car festival will present the latest designs, innovations, and automotive technology in automobile exhibitions, first-time reveals, and various test drives, including at the Lusail International Circuit. A preview of the highly anticipated Qatar Auto Museum display, which will showcase one of the most remarkable car collections in the world, from supercars and limited editions to racing and classic cars, will round off the program.
