Doha: Sohni Dharti Forum of overseas Pakistanis in Qatar organised “Sohni Dharti Cricket League” in Al Khor on Friday. Six teams, formed with the names of famous ‘PSL teams’, participated.
Rana Anwar Ali, Chairman Sohni Dharti opened the tournament .Team Lahore Qalandar was lead by Khuzaima Amjad. Team Peshwar Zalmi was lead by Muhammad Muaz Ejaz. Team Karachi Kings was lead by Jahangeer Vaheed. Team Islamabad united was lead by Hanzala Shamsi. Team Quetta Gladiators was lead by Umair Arshad and team Gilgit elevators was lead by Fawad. Peshawar Zalmi & Lahore Qalandar teams qualified for the first semi final and the second semi final played between Giligit Elevators and Islamabad united. Lahore Qalandar and Giligit elevators qualified for the final. Giligit elevators won the final and became “First Sohni Dharti Cricket league champion for year 2016.”
Rana said at the closing ceremony of the tournament: “The enhancement of physical and mental development of children is certainly the most important contribution of sports for children.”
“Sport is important for all ages people, especially for children. The sporting habit at an early age is useful for the body,” he added. The tournament was organised by ‘Sohni Dharti’ executive committee members Sabir Hussain, Choudhry Shafqat Naseem, Shahid Nadeem, Mujtaba Balloch.
Rana distributed the prizes among the winning teams.
