DOHA: Seema, ridden by jockey R French, yesterday galloped to Thoroughbred Derby Trial win in the QR150,000 race at Al Rayyan Park.
Seema crossed the winning post ahead of Alban de Mieulle-trained Al Faraj who was piloted home by jockey P Convertino.
Madhmoonah - trained by Jassim Ghazali - finished the 1,850m race in third spot.
Trained by A Abbas, Seema clinched the top prize of QR 85,500 with a time of 1:55:13.
Jockey Convertino picked up the second prize of QR 33,000 while Gerald Avalanche secured the third prize of QR 16,500.
Earlier on Tuesday, Jassim Ghazali trained Ladyanne won the Oaks Trial for Thoroughbreds during the 13th race meeting at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (REC).
The seven races of the day were held under the auspices of HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser bin Faleh Al Thani.
Ladyanne, running for the first time this season, has started off with a victorious outing.
It augurs well for the rest of the season. Avranche piloted Ladyanne to the winning post.
Ladyanne won by a ‘neck’ margin against Mud Hilah in a time of 1:57.64.
By winning the final race of the day, Avranche completed a double. Earlier he had ridden Collect Art to victory.
There were 10 runners in the fray for the QR 80,000 prize money race.
It was run over a distance of 1,850 metres.
Mud Hilah and Huaca Lay were second and third respectively.
It was a good day at REC for trainer Ghazali as he won three races with his other two wards Thawi and Collect Art managing wins earlier.
The jockey-trainer combination of David Bouland and Alban de Mieulle too had a double with Nashmi and Farraaha.
Nashmi, seen for the first time on the track, won the Pure Arabian Restricted Stakes in an exciting finish among four horses.
Hosted by the REC, seven more races will take place today.
The action begins at 4:00pm today. THE PENINSULA
