Reigning Asian champions Qatar yesterday defeated Iraq 27-19 in their second handball friendly at Al Duhail Sports Hall.Al Annabi also won the first friendly against the same opposition 31-18 on Tuesday.
Qatar team management has planned the friendly matches to ensure best prep-arations for the national team ahead of the Asian Handball Championship to be held in Saudi Arabia from January 18 to 31.
The event will also act as qualifying tournament for next year's World Men’s Handball Championship. The top five teams of the Asian Championship will qualify for the event to be jointly hosted by Poland and Sweden.
Qatar also played two friendlies against Egypt last week. Qatar have been highly successful at the Asian Championships, claiming four consecutive titles in the 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 editions.
