DOHA: Al Muthqafah with Soufiane Saadi in the saddle made a late surge to win the Purebred Arabian Fillies over 2100m, clinching the Al Wakra Cup in style yesterday.

The filly, owned by Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari and trained by Zuhair Mohsen, overtook leaders to claim her second career win in third career start at Al Uqda Racecourse that had eight races on the card. Saadi patiently waited before unleashing her blistering speed in the final 100m to register a thrilling victory.

The connections of Jungle Mate celebrate their Fuwairit Cup triumph on Wednesday night.

Building on his runner-up finish last time, the 4YO gelding showed his class by running prominently throughout the race. Once in the home straight, he kicked clear to win comfortably by one and a half lengths. The victory also completed a double on the evening for both his trainer and his jockey Tomas Lukasek.
