US dollar ticks down

New York: The US dollar softened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.21 percent to 103.840 at 300 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.0843 U.S. dollars from 1.0802 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2921 US dollars from 1.2894 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The US dollar bought 148.03 Japanese yen, higher than 147.69 Japanese yen of the previous session. The US dollar fell to 0.8800 Swiss francs from 0.8827 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.4365 Canadian dollars from 1.4303 Canadian dollars.

The US dollar was down to 10.0784 Swedish kronor from 10.1658 Swedish kronor.
