Doha: Mohammed Saeed Haidan extended his overall Medium Tour lead with another enthralling display of equestrian skills astride Miss Chili as the Qatari rider clinched the victory in the fourth round of the Longines Hathab season, yesterday.
On the second day of the popular Tour at the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) Indoor Arena, Haidan and his 14-year-old mare topped the timesheets with a flawless ride in 25.63 secs in the jump off. The 31-year-old rider had earlier clocked a time of 72.89 secs with no errors in the initial round. Haidan won QR7,500 in prize money.
Mira V/D Roshoeve, with Rashid Towaim Al Marri in the saddle, completed the jump off round in 26.07 secs to clinch the second spot while Salmeen Sultan Al Suwaidi guided Fiori LS in another error-free routine that lasted for 26.25 secs to book the remaining spot on the podium.
Earlier, young rider Mohammed Nasser Al Qadi was the fastest among a massive field of 76 entries in the Small Tour as his 20-year-old bay mare Vlacido completed the 100/110cm event in 42.66 seconds. Al Qadi won QR5,000 in prize money. Calva Z, with Saif Mohammed Al Kaabi in the saddle, was second with a time of 44.41 while Saeed Hamad Jumaa, astride Jirocco Blue, came third in 44.98 secs.
In the day’s opening event, the youngest riders competed in the Junior Small Tour which was eventually won by Mohammed Jamal Al Derbesti. Previous round’s winner, 14-year-old Haya Khalid Al Hitmi came second while Hend Abdulhadi Al Hajri completed the podium following their impressive performances.
Meanwhile, the Medium Tour Team event was won by Al Shaqab.
The team, which had the services of Faris Saad Al Qahtani (Hidiene), Abdulrahman Eisa Al Bukhari (Irschi) and Awad Alqahtani (Jethro Colado), registered a total of 143.49 seconds. Al Qahtani then followed up with a jump off time of 26.49 seconds without making any errors to top the table as Al Shaqab secured the victory in style.
Team Ajwad (Cyrine Cherif/ Brennus Villelongue, Rashid Towaim Al Marri/Obama) and Khalid Ali Al Adba/Curt Lele) came second after clocking a total time of 147.34 secs and following up with a jump off of 27.61 secs. Faleh Suwead Al Ajami/Ambre de Beaufour, Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi/ S I E C Lonnie and Hussain Saeed Haidan/Viahipi D’auzay were part of Team ExxonMobil booked the remaining podium spot.
Speaking about the popular equestrian tour, the Commercial Director of Al Shaqab and Vice-President of the Higher Organising Committee of Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour Omar Al Mannai said the riders participating in the series have shown a very high level of technical skills and it is showing continuous development. “That confirms the riders are well prepared to compete strongly for top honours in each round as well as the general classifications at the end of the season,” he pointed out.
The fourth round of the Tour concludes today.
