Brent falls by $3

LONDON: Oil fell sharply yesterday, cutting some of the steep gains seen this week, as investors turned their focus to growth problems confronting the US and European economies after the re-election of President Barack Obama. Worries about the European economy and negotiations in the United States to avert a looming fiscal cliff, which would lead to nearly $600bn in spending cuts, have now returned to the foreground. A US EIA report showing a rise in crude oil, petrol and distillate inventories in the US last week also weighed on prices. Brent futures were down $3.20 at $107.87 per barrel by 1645 GMT. US crude fell $3.47 to $85.24 per barrel.
