Khartoum: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud yesterday arrived in Khartoum on a visit to Sudan, during which he will inaugurate comprehensive service projects in Darfur.
He will inaugurate the integrated service compound in the model village of Tabet in North Darfur and the integrated service compound in the model village of Umm Dai in East Darfur as part of Qatar’s initiative to develop the region.
Al Mahmoud was welcomed at Khartoum International Airport by Minister of Investment Mudathir Abdel Ghani, Minister of Health Bahar Idris Abu Garda, State Minister at the Foreign Ministry, Obeid-Allah Mohamed Obeid-Allah, State Minister for the Council of Ministers Ahmed Abdalla and Qatari Ambassador to Sudan Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi.
Al Mahmoud stressed the depth of Qatar-Sudanese relations, expressing pleasure for the visit to inaugurate service projects undertaken by Qatar as part of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
To a question, he stressed close inter-relationship between development, peace and security, saying that security, peace and development are a trilogy; none of its parts can be separated from the others.
He reaffirmed Qatar’s the commitment to the peace and development in the region and provide all support to achieve these goals under the directions of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
On Darfur Development Bank, which was announced by Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Deputy Premier said Qatar is working with Organisation of Islamic cooperation for starting implementation steps.
Pointing to the recent Darfur Reconstruction Conference in Doha to raise funds for the purpose, Al Mahmoud highlighted development projects carried out by Qatar through Qatar Development Fund and other projects being implemented in cooperation with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Al Mahmoud called on the armed movements in Darfur, who have not signed the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, to join the march of peace.
He welcomed national dialogue initiative launched by the Sudanese President and hoped it brings good to all people of Sudan.
Al Mahmoud separately met Abdel Ghani and UNDP Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Marta Ruedas at Al Salam Rotana Hotel.
They discussed investment areas between Qatar and Sudan and progress in development and reconstruction work in Darfur. Al Nuaimi attended the meeting.
Al Mahmoud discussed with Ruedas projects to be executed in Darfur in line with agreements between Qatar and UNDP.
Ruedas expressed gratitude and appreciation for Qatar’s role in the development and reconstruction of Darfur and constant efforts that it exerts in these areas.
Foreign Ministry’s International Development Department Director Ahmed bin Mohammad Al Muraikhi was present.
