Waiting for an update while your loved one is being operated upon is probably one of the most-feared situations to be in. To make it easier for these families and reduce their anxiety, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) plans to install information screen in surgery waiting room, as reported by an Arabic daily.
Al-Sharq reported that as a step to update family about the progress of the surgery, HMC will put up information screens in waiting room displaying code names for patients.
Also the updates would be colour coded according to various stages, such as when the patient is being prepared for surgery, entering the operation room, then shifting to intesive care or to the ward.
The report further said that the hospital is expected to go a step further and could soon introduce sending short text messages to family members updating them about the surgical procedure.
