Qatar win basketball title

Qatar basketball players celebrate winning the FIBA 3x3 World Championship title along with Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President of Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), in Moscow yesterday. Qatar beat Serbia 18-13 in the final to bag the world title. This was Qatar’s first world title in this format of the game and it was the first time Russia organised the FIBA 3x3 World Championships. 

Doha: Qatar defeated Serbia 18-13 to win the 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Championships for men in Moscow yesterday.
Earlier in the semi-final, Qatar got the better of Lithuania 14-13 in a thriller. In the other semi-final, Serbia got past hosts Russia 19-11.


Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the President of Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) lauded the historic achievement.
“We are pleased with this achievement. Full credit to the boys for bringing the trophy to Qatar,” said the QBF President.
“We are proud of the team’s high technical level and dazzling performance and we hope they will do the best in the future,” said Sheikh Saoud, who is also the General Secretary of Qatar Olympic Committee. 
United States defeated hosts Russia 15-8 to win the women’s championship.
