QNA said, the Riyadh Summit assumes immense significance as it is being held in the backdrop of ongoing conflicts in the Arab world as also amidst rebuilding effort in several fellow Arab states. The previous GCC summit was held in Doha and one of the main issues that was discussed was about how to achieve full economic integration within the GCC states.
The Economic and Financial Affairs Committee of the GCC Council had recommended that as regards economic integration of the GCC states a study be conducted to assess its feasibility. The feasibility of a full-fledged regional common market was to be studied. The study, according to QNA, was completed and its draft was submitted to the committee which approved it.
The study is now to be referred to experts for review.
It was also decided that the GCC General Secretariat be provided the resources to provide anti-money laundering training to entities and people concerned in the member-states after the issue of money laundering in the region has been studied in-depth by experts.
The study also aimed at evaluating risks and then focusing on the need to make a common regional study to prevent it and fight if it happened, said QNA.
