DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning  (MMUP) aims to go paperless by 2017, says its minister in-charge.
Speaking at an event here yesterday, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani said that by 2017 no paper will be used in the Ministry’s transactions. All transactions will be made electronic, he said.
The Minister was speaking at the launch of Phase 2 of electronic services for building licensing. Building licences will not be issued on paper as the service has been made completely electronic.
The Minister said that Qatar was among the countries in the world with one of the highest Internet penetrations and where e-database of all kinds were available. The country has advanced technology and also boasts fast Internet services. The e-building licence system is such that applicants can follow up and check the status of their application using their mobile phones.
The Minister said that the e-licensing system is also such that it wouldn’t accept an application for building licence if it is being made through an engineering consultancy which has been blacklisted for some reasons.
