One dies, three hurt in residential facility fire

DOHA: A 47-year old Filipina, wife of an employee of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) died and three others in her family were injured in a fire in a residential facility on Monday, HMC said yesterday. “It is with great sadness that we inform you several of our HMC family members have been devastated by a residential fire yesterday,” HMC said in a statement.

“One of our team members, Rafael Pingul, 45, and his daughter, Micaela, 13, are in critical condition and his wife, Chona, 47, has died as a result of the incident.  Their son, Raffi, 15, also remains under our care at this time.  Mr Pingul is an operating theater technician and has been with HMC since 1999,” it added.
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of other staff members and their families housed in the building, HMC has taken immediate steps to provide suitable emergency accommodation for them.
