Qatar Rail has advised commuters of Doha Metro to use ‘Park and Ride’ service, particularly during major events, to avoid road congestion.

“During major events, ‘Park & Ride’ service is available around 12 of Doha Metro stations. The total capacity of these facilities is about 18,500 parking spaces, allowing customers to park cars & resume their journeys by metro without worrying about traffic,” Qatar Rail said in a tweet yesterday.

It is to be noted that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 intercontinental playoff between Australia vs Peru and Costa Rica vs New Zealand will be played on June 13 and 14 respectively at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
Meanwhile in another announcement Doha Metro said, today and tomorrow, Metro services on Green Line will be replaced with alternative services while Metrolink will operate as normal.

As per the update posted on social media handles, replacement buses will operate every 10 minutes between Al Bidda Station and Al Riffa Mall of Qatar Station. The bus on both routes will stop at all the stations except White Palace station. A  replacement bus service will also run every 10 minutes between Al Mansoura and Al Doha Al Jadeda station on the Red Line.

Among ‘Park and Ride’ service available around 12 of Doha Metro stations, there exist four big ‘Park and Ride’ sites. These parking lots are located near Metro stations in four main locations including Al Wakra, Education City, Lusail and Al Qassar.

The ‘Park and Ride’  is one of the main projects of Public Bus Infrastructure Program of the Ministry of Transport. It provides free parking spaces near Metro stations to encourage vehicle owners to use the modern public transportation systems to and from their destinations in less time and at a lower cost.

This is also helping further improve the services on public roads and at major intersections by achieving smoother traffic flow, less congestion and less carbon emissions. It also adds a significant enhancement to Qatar’s public transportation network and Doha Metro services for citizens, residents and visitors.

The Ministry of Transport continuously working to improve public transit services and increase ridership over the coming years.
