DOHA: Football giants Al Rayyan and Al Sadd got off to flying starts at the QSL Cup, registering commendable wins in their respective Group B opening matches, yesterday.

At the Thani bin Jassim Stadium, Al Rayyan comfortably secured a 3-0 victory over Al Ahli to earn full points while Al Sadd registered an identical win over Al Shahania at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium.

The last match of Group B yesterday at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium saw Al Khor defeating Al Sailiya 2-1.

Al Rayyan were clearly the better side against Al Ahli last evening as they dominated their opponents in their first QSL Cup clash, with star Sebastian Soria scoring a brace.

‘The Lions’ found their first goal through a superbly-crafted free-kick from captain Rodrigo Tabata in the 37th minute. Just a couple of minutes later, Soria scored his first goal to double Al Rayyan lead.

Soria scored again in the 82nd minute to complete a 3-0 victory over Al Ahli.

Al Sadd, meanwhile, scored all their three goals against Al Shahania in the second session after a goalless first half.

Hamid Ismail broke the deadlock when he made no mistake on a clever pass from captain Xavi in the 47th minute.

‘The Wolves’ pulled off another goal in the 53rd minute with Hasan Ahmed finding the target this time.

Soud Ibrahim sealed the 3-0 victory with a strike in the 88th minute.

The first round matches in Group A on Saturday saw Al Duhail and Umm Salal winning their respective matches.

Al Duhail edged Al Kharaitiyat 2-1 while Umm Salal secured a 1-0 win over Al Arabi.

Defending champions Al Gharafa were held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar SC in other Group A match.
