Doha: Tenders for expansion of Hamad International Airport will be awarded in the second quarter of this year.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Transport and Communication, HE Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, at the sidelines of the 10th Al Khor Fly-In Day at the Al Khor Airport.
Airport Committee headed by the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, Abdullah Al Subaie, has been restructured and now they have begun to assign companies for developing final designs and plans for the intended expansion, the minister added.
The committee will decide the timing for invitation for the tender.
“All plans are being implemented smoothly in accordance to the schedule and will be finish within the timeframe,” the minister added
The transport minister yesterday said that all roads and transportation projects are underway according to plans and schedules.
"Our projects at the airport and the port, roads and transportation in general are progressing as planned, to achieve the goals and aspirations of the wise leadership in this regard, and to meet the aspirations of the people of Qatar,” the Minister told the local media.
He stressed the ministry’s keenness to be accurate in the planning and delivery of the projects to meet the expectations of all.
The government considers infrastructure and transportation projects as one of its priorities with QR42bn allocated in its 2017 budget, representing 21.2% of the total budget for the year. Specifically, QR10bn have been allocated for rail projects and Hamad Port, along with a large number of roads including the Lusail road, Al Rayyan road, Dukhan road, the new ring road for trucks and the new Al Khor road.
