Doha: In a push toward eco-mobility in public transport, Mowasalat (Karwa) is replacing all Karwa city taxis with hybrid electric eco-taxis.

The vehicles use a self-charging Hybrid Electric System that runs on a mix of highly efficient low emission gasoline and electric motor. When starting up, stopping, or moving at slow speed, the vehicle is run entirely on electric power. Decelerating or breaking turns kinetic energy from the wheels into electricity, to be stored in the car battery. This is especially efficient in the inner-city boundaries, where traffic slows down the Taxis. The company estimates that each vehicle will save around 12,000 kg of CO2 in comparison to a Taxi powered by a conventional fuel drive system.

“Karwa has set out to green mobility for less emissions and cleaner air. This eco-friendly fleet will further reduce our carbon footprint on the streets of Doha, and it is yet another stepping stone on the way to our zero-emission goal. We will further place our emphasis on innovative technologies, and an extension of our Taxi fleet with fully electric vehicles is already in the pipeline. We see this as one of our key contributions to the Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Fahad Saad Al Qahtani, CEO, Mowasalat (Karwa).
