Qatar Sustainability Week to attract large number of participants

Doha, Qatar: Earthna Centre for a Sustainable Future, a member of Qatar Foundation has announced the 8th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW).

The national campaign will be held from November 4 to 11 and it is anticipated to be the largest ever in terms of participation and activities.

Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of Earthna speaking to The Peninsula recently said, “This year will be its eighth edition and we’re hoping to once again break our own records on participation and activities.”

“This national campaign is designed to engage the community through a diverse range of activities, and raise societal awareness of environmental issues and the community’s role in addressing these. QSW is a unique platform for us to encourage individuals across the country to participate in, and promote Qatar’s sustainability vision,” he said, adding that Earthna strives to empower Qatari citizens and residents to adopt environmentally conscious behaviours and become local ambassadors and advocates for sustainability.

Qatar Sustainability Week is the opportunity to convene leaders, activists, workers, and school and university students to contribute to Qatar’s journey towards a more sustainable future.

The campaign is part of Earthna’s local advocacy to empower Qatari citizens and residents to adopt environmentally conscious behaviours and become local ambassadors and advocates for sustainability. It provides a platform for dialogue and facilitates tangible actions, Earthna supports Qatar’s vision for sustainability and helps translate it into real impact. Over seven years between 2016 and 2022 Qatar Sustainability Week has seen 500,000 participants, 1700 events and engaged with 1,110 partners.

“People can come together and take action to create a movement for change. Individuals and organisations can match power and passion with action to make a difference,” Earthna said on its website inviting individuals and organisations to take part in the Qatar Sustainability Week.

Organisations can become a Qatar Sustainability Week partner and register their sustainability actions and register sustainability-related initiative, activity, and event to be published on the website.

As an individual participant, public can enjoy several activities open to the public and attend events that extend their knowledge about sustainability and join competitions.

The Qatar Sustainability Week has partnered with Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Expo 2023, UDC, Katara Hospitality, Kahramaa, Qatar Rail, Msheireb Properties and British council.
