DOHA: Minister of Culture H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday spoke, during his meeting with the Editors-in-Chief of Qatari newspapers, about the goals and activities taking place during the ten-day Doha International Book Fair.
“This year book fair has attracted over 430 publishing houses from 37 countries and will host some 800 events and activities,” said the Minister, noting that this is the largest number of events and activities since the launch of the fair in 1972.
He added: “Children and schools were supposed to visit the book fair but due COVID-19 restrictions they will not be able to visit the exhibition but there will be special programs for them in the Creativity Garden and on TVs.”
H E the Minister also spoke about a special event of ‘Reader Guide’, which will help people interested in reading to know how to develop the habit of reading and how to initiate the passion. “The Reader Guide is available for visitor in the exhibition,” he stressed.
Speaking about COVID-19 precautionary measures, H E said due to the health situation and giving priority to people’s safety, presence in the exhibition area will not be more than 30 percent of capacity. “There will be online pre-registration in order not to have more than 2000 people at the same time. There are videos and awareness materials published by the Ministry of Culture and people can refer to these materials for further details,” he stated.
