DOHA: Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC) will implement several new programmes this year with an aim to empower youth better plan their career paths in line with their potential and the future needs of Qatar’s market.

The new programmes will be built upon the success of years in creating awareness about career development among the youth, said Abdulla Al Mansoori (pictured), Director, QCDC.

“This year we are planning to have more programmes and services that will further enhance our youth to be able to find the best potential career path. It should really fulfill their potentials and will enable them to contribute to the country’s economy,” he told The Peninsula.

QCDC, a member of Qatar Foundation, formerly known as Qatar Career Fair, aims to be the country’s beacon for career guidance, preparing the nation’s young human capital to respond to the requirements of the QNV 2030, by instilling career guidance within Qatar’s socio-economic culture.

In 2017, QCDC was able to attract more participants at its activities held to create awareness about career development. It has also built strong relations with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

“This year we are bringing a new career advising system, which will cover all high school students and their parents. It will help children with some career recommendations and related statistics which will help them make decisions,” said Al Mansoori. “Within this programme we will be training all school counselors as well,” he added.

Career advising system provides ultimate and most comprehensive career planning solution for students, counselors, parents and others.

QCDC will also have an ‘ambassador program’, where students will be able to be an ambassador within the community, like at school and among family members and share about their experience on career development. Also some other programmes of QCDC will continue this year.

“The biennial platform will bring all stakeholders in Qatar and advise students on some of the facts that they need to concentrate while choosing a career. Also we will continue to have different career camps,” said Al Mansoori. QCDC aims at everyone between the age of 8 and 18 years, including school students and fresh university graduates in Qatar.

To a question about the interest of youth in different careers, Al Manssori said, “In general they get influenced by what is happening around. So we can see that many want to start an entrepreneurship because they see a big potential there. While some boys like non civilian jobs like the military.”

“However, in general Qatar needs professionals in all fields. But whatever field someone chooses, they need to be efficient there,” he added.

QCDC also aims to enrich and support career-guidance policy-making and practices by contributing to quality career literature, insights as well as offering high quality career services by professional experts.
