Qatar Museums (QM) is offering art classes, hosted by the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).
The online art classes will be held on weekdays and will continue until June 2022.
The lessons are entitled “Dynastic Differences,” and “Materials in Islamic Art.” Both programmes will run from 9am to 12noon.
On “Dynastic Differences,” QM explained that: “We will look at domestic and royal environments, understand how they became part of the Islamic world and what they brought with them from their pre-Islamic past.”
The collection at MIA includes numerous objects from across the Islamic world. This class explores three lesser-known dynasties, their art, achievements and legacy for modern day Islamic culture, it explained.
Meanwhile, on “Materials in Islamic Art,” students will learn where each material of the MIA's collection came from and the processes used to create the beautiful masterpieces. In addition, they will have a chance to compare the art pieces at MIA with everyday objects they are familiar with.
Some of the masterpieces in the museum’s collection are made up of various types of material, including metalwork, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork, textiles, coins and glass. Each of these materials have different properties or characteristics that can be observed.
Students will create timelines, look at geography and art, and develop an appreciation for lesser-known dynasties and their impact on our world.
English and Arabic languages will be used for the two online art classes.
The classes are free to attend. Those interested can email for registration at schoolsmia@qm.org.qa.
