Doha: As rains are predicted throughout the week it’s always better to keep a few points in mind while driving on wet roads.

Sadly, people don’t pay attention to changes in road condition and many accidents happen during these times as vehicles will respond differently from normal conditions.

Ministry of Interior (MoI) has published on their social media platforms few helpful tips for motorists driving on wet roads during rain.

1) As rain falls, it creates slick conditions, which could cause skidding. The best way to avoid skidding is to slow down. Driving at a slower pace allows more of the tire's tread to make contact with the road, which leads to better traction.
2) It takes about three times longer to brake on wet roads than on dry roads. Since more distance is required to brake, it is important not to tailgate (it’s important not to tailgate on dry roads also. Don’t tailgate at all). Keep a little of more than two car lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you.
3) Rain requires you to quietly and smoothly use the controls of your car -- steering wheel, brakes and accelerator. Don’t drive at speeds that does not suit the road’s condition, and make sure you reduce speed when the road is wet.
4) Be sure that the wipers are in good condition and clean the windshield and rear window repeatedly. In case, water vapor gathers on car windscreen, run the air conditioner to clear it for more visibility.
5) Avoid overtaking and unnecessary lane-changes and keep safe distance between vehicles.
6) Avoid driving through water-logging as you won't aware of its depth or what's there that may endanger your safety.
