DOHA: Nepal, one of the participating countries at the 1st FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship for Men and Women, is keen to leave a lasting impression of their love for basketball, a top official said.

Nepal’s very identity in international basketball is somehow synonymous with 3x3 format of the game. The Himalayan nation made first international appearance thanks to the introduction of 3x3 competitions and ever since there is a spring in the top administrators’ step.

“Basketball has become one of the most popular sports in Nepal especially in urban cities. This format of basketball can help us to take basketball to all parts of Nepal and give everyone an opportunity to play this beautiful game,” Lama Tendi Sherpa the president of NeBA, said in a story posted on www.fibaasia3x3.fibaasia.net.

“Our target is to promote 3x3 basketball throughout the country and increase the number of basketball players,” he added.

“We selected the teams on the basis of their performance in the past 3x3 competitions, which took place across the country.

“We invited the best 8 players for the training and from that we selected best four players for our teams,” Sherpa explained.

“We hope the team puts out a performance to show that Nepal is one of the emerging nations in basketball,” he added.
