DOHA: Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani (pictured), President of Qatar Basketball Federation (QFB) said the stage was set for inaugural FIBA Asia 3x3 tournament to be held at Villaggio Mall.
In February this year, the Qatari capital became the first FIBA Asia National Federation country to host the QBF 3x3 tournament at City Center.
Sheikh Saoud said Qatar is prepared to deliver a ‘great FIBA tournament’.
“Although it was the first time we had formally undertaken to host this form of basketball, it (the event in February) gave us a glimpse of our readiness to host the 1st FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship for Men. We are ready and very upbeat about our event,” Sheikh Saoud said.
Echoing Sheikh Saoud’s view, Saadoun Al Kuwari, Executive Director of QBF, said: “For us it’s very important to host this 3x3 competition which will be the first to be held in Qatar.”
Matches will be played between 3 and 9pm on the ice-rink, which has been converted to basketball courts.
Three matches will be played simultaneously. There will be special seating arrangements and free entry for the spectators.
Matches will last ten minutes each, Sheikh Saoud said.
