National Day festivities at Carnegie Mellon University-Qatar yesterday.

Doha: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar’s (CMU-Q) Qatari Student Association yesterday hosted National Day festivities for students, faculty, staff and the wider Qatar Foundation community.
The event included sword dance, henna and traditional Qatari food to give participants greater insight into Qatari traditions while demonstrating the importance of preserving the local cultural heritage. The highlight of the evening was an exclusive performance by local singer Nasser Al Kubaisi.
“Carnegie Mellon Qatar’s campus is extremely diverse, with students from across the globe studying here. Qatar National Day is an enriching experience, offering students from different cultural backgrounds the opportunity to learn about the rich culture and heritage of Qatar,” said Ilker Baybars, dean and CEO of Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
Commercial Bank, Qatar’s first private bank, is planning a number of activities to celebrate the Qatar National Day. There will be a host of events and activities at Commercial Bank Plaza this week, including an exhibition in the lobby with historical artifacts and a traditional fereej in a special area set up outside.
Commercial Bank has also engaged the wider Qatari community through a number of activities as part of its CSR that is tailored to promote national pride. Separately, an outdoor  campaign under the theme, “Qatar is our everything”, was launched earlier this month with celebratory messages marking the occasion.
