Doha: The Ministry of Energy and Industry is marking Qatar's National Day this year with remarkable achievements in many fields, especially the completion of all infrastructure and service works for the Doha New Small and Medium scale Industries Area.
In the field of industrial development management, the Ministry studied 30 investment opportunities in the field of small and medium industries with investors in the private sector.
The Ministry also prepared the national industrial development strategy which aims to raise the contribution of the manufacturing sector from 7.3 in 2010 to 12.8 at the rate of annual increase of 1.1 percent from 2011 to 2016. The Ministry also prepared a comprehensive study about the current situation of private factories.
Forty-seven new industrial facilities were registered this year and entered the actual production phase. The capital invested in those facilities reached around one billion Qatari Riyals.
Qatar Petroleum (QP), the leading national company responsible for all oil and gas industry processes in Qatar and abroad, has continued its efforts aiming at developing the oil and gas sectors in the state.
QP has been preparing engineering studies for the development of oil fields and re-developing them to improve the performance of reservoirs and maintain good production rates with prolonging the lives of the fields through the development of oil and gas stockpile.
in the exploration area, QP has been working to implement a number of projects locally and internationally. It is currently working in cooperation with its partners to explore the deeper layers. The company completed drilling of exploratory wells, and prepared an agreement with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to drill exploratory wells in El Bunduq oilfield, located on the offshore border of Abu Dhabi Emirates and Qatar.

Internationally, Qatar Petroleum acquired 23% stake in Brazil's offshore Parque das Conchas project after a partnership agreement with Shell in April 2014. QP also acquired a vast majority of Centrica plc conventional natural gas and crude oil business in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin for US$1 billion.
Meanwhile, QP worked on the development of projects in the gas sector. The rate of gas production from the North Field over the past year amounted to about 19 billion cubic feet per day, with condensate production rate of 600 thousand barrels per day.
The development of gas sector included a host of milestone projects such as Barzan Gas Project, the gas recovery project, and Helium 3 Project.
In regard to manufacturing and refining, QP has developed ambitious plans to achieve optimum utilization of Qatar's natural resources of oil and gas. QP was able to overcome significant barriers related to technical aspects, infrastructure, logistics, marketing and finance. The Qatari gas industry was not limited on export as raw material. QP implemented a divers strategy to develop gas exploitation projects and the create a value-added natural gas in cooperation with international partners. Manufacturing and refining sector included a number of projects such as Zekreet Gasoline Project, Umm Al Houl Independent Water and Power Project, the condensate refinery project Laffan Refinery 2 and others.
On the other hand, QP holds the management of Ras Laffan and Mesaieed Industrial Cities, and is keen on their development through the construction and development of infrastructure for the new expansions in petrochemical industries, the creation of a appropriate and competitive investment environment to attract small and medium industries, and providing them with all the support services as part of the five-year plan for industrial cities.
