Doha: Boybands dominated the 2015 music trends on Twitter, with Kpop being a hot sensation on the social network.
Twitter published its annual year-end review, revealing this year’s popular tweets, hashtags and emojis.
British boyband One Direction proved to be the undisputed social media superstars with leading Twitter’s 2015 list of global music trends and the most recirculated tweets.
Tweets by members of One Direction, or 1D as they are called on social media, accounted for half of the 10 most recirculated tweets, including the three most popular ones.
One Direction's Harry Styles tweeted in March “All the love as always. H," after Zayn Malik announced his departure from the group. The incident shocked ‘Directioners’ across the globe, which was reflected in some 717,000 retweets and 741,0000 Likes Harry’s tweet got, apart from the popular hashtags fans on Twitter used to express their grief.  The band's other current and former members have between 16.6 million and 23.7 million followers each.
Behind the British boyband was South Korea’s GOT7. The seven-member group under South Korea’s JYP Entertainment held a real-time question and answer session on Twitter Korea on Oct 5 to communicate with fans. During the event, a record-breaking 7.8 million tweets went out, the highest total since Twitter Korea launched such events.
Kpop groups such as EXO, BTS and BigBang were ranked fourth, sixth and 10th respectively.  Bangtan  Boys, or BTS, was the only K-pop group that appeared in Korean on the Twitter list.
Fifth Harmony was the only female act included in the top ten music trends, appearing at the fifth spot on the list. The American girl group shot to fame after appearing on the second season of The X Factor USA in 2012.
