Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has been providing uninterrupted entertainment for all, including football fans and locals. What’s even better is that everything is happening simultaneously, ensuring that no one will miss out at all.
Every single entertainment event for the World Cup has been carefully curated by the SC to ensure that everyone will have a good time, whether inside and outside of stadiums, parks, museums, and even before departing from the airport.
There is something for everyone’s taste in enjoyment, including music festivals, concerts, sports and adventure, and arts and culture. The SC has designated sites for various entertainment districts and events that are easily accessible by bus or metro, allowing visitors to jump on and off at different locations.
From the first day the World Cup began, Qatar has been hosting a wide range of cultural and entertainment offerings that will continue through December 18, the day of the biggest sporting event’s conclusion.
More than 90 unique events are happening in conjunction with the competition. There are locations for spectators to watch matches, music festivals, cultural exhibitions, and street performances during the tournament.
Lusail Winter Wonderland
Under Qatar Live, top-selling artists and performers held concerts in the country including Black Eyed Peas, David Guetta, J Balvin, Robbie Williams, among many others. The programme ‘Qatar Live’ is hosting over 60 international artists throughout the World Cup.
Daydream festival is also back with this year’s new stage the Magic Lantern. Daydream Qatar 2022 features the biggest DJ line up seen in the Middle East, with Alesso, Alok, Armin Van Buren, DVLM, John Newmam, Major Lazer, Tiesto, & Tinny Trumpet, to name a few.
Family theatre circus musical performances including The Enchanted Prince, and Pinocchio were also staged during the first few weeks of the World Cup. The Qatar Live series has been organised by the international event management company Alchemy Project.
The Corniche, a 6 km route from the Sheraton Hotel to the Museum of Islamic Art Park, is the focal point of the country’s entertainment during the FIFA World Cup.
It features roving performances, cultural activities, food and beverage stalls, and retail outlets. Over 120,000 people will be able to visit the Corniche at peak time. Every night at 9pm, a spectacular fireworks, drone and water show is being held until the finals of the biggest sporting event.
All eight stadiums’ surrounding areas offer a variety of activities for fans. The Last-Mile Cultural Activation features visual arts, crafts and heritage, fashion and design, performance art, music and film screenings. They can also meet La’eeb, Official Mascot of Qatar 2022, at every stadium during the tournament by heading to the La’eeb Hype Show!
Arcadia Music Festival
Meanwhile, away from the stadiums, football fans have been flocking to the FIFA Fan Festival in Al Bidda Park, which broadcasts every game live and feature stage performances, food and beverage outlets, cultural events, and sponsor activations.
The FIFA Fan Festival opened on November 20 and has the capacity to host up to 40,000 visitors. In addition, fan zones will be hosted in the Industrial Area and Al Khor.
Since launching on the eve of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, it has received more than one million fans. The lucky 1 millionth fan was given two tickets to the FIFA World Cup final at Lusail Stadium on December 18 to commemorate the occasion.
Music fans are very well catered for during the tournament. The Arcadia Spectacular dance music festival is being held near Ras Bu Fontas metro station and host up to 15,000 fans, while another music event, Aravia, hosted by MDLBEAST, is taking place at Al Wakrah and is attracting 5,000 fans.
Another tourist hotspot is the 974 Beach Club — located close to Stadium 974, which offers music, activities, food and beverage options, and retail stalls for up to 10,000 guests.
In addition, Lusail Boulevard, near the Lusail Staidum stadium that will host the FIFA World Cup final is staging street performances for around 50,000 people every day.
A variety of cultural and entertainment activities are available for fans across key tourist destinations in the country, including museums, Souq Waqif, Katara Cultural Village and Msheireb Downtown Doha.
Al Maha Island is open from November 14 to April 30; The Corniche activations and Aravia, until December 18; and Arcadia Music Festival, until December 19.
Calling fashion enthusiasts as the Qatar Fashion United by CR Runway is happening on December 16 at 974 Stadium. Post Malone has been revealed as the much-anticipated event’s headlining act by Qatar Creates and CR Runway.
The world-famous performer, singer, songwriter, and record producer will cap off a monumental celebration of fashion, culture, and music with his first-ever concert in Qatar. The runway will feature more than 150 designers and brands on the biggest runway in the world. With representation from over 50 countries, Qatar Fashion United by CR Runway will present four choreographed runway presentations, followed by show-stopping performances by Post Malone and other acclaimed artists, including DJ Snake, Nancy Ajram, Kadim Al Sahir, Khaled, Ozuna and Zakes Bantwini.
Festival in Motion is also running until December 18. From December 5 to 20, it presents a major international dance and music programme with more than 55 site-specific performances at some of Qatar’s most notable architectural monuments.
It is co-curated by two internationally acclaimed artists: French choreographer and filmmaker Benjamin Millepied, Artistic Director and Co-founder of the influential L.A. Dance Project, choreographer of the film Black Swan, and former Director of the Paris Opera Ballet, and renowned American composer Nico Muhly whose music has been performed at the Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, and others.
The 13-day programme showcases more than a dozen exceptional artists from around the world. Audiences can view the performances free of cost in exceptional locations across Qatar, including museums (the National Museum of Qatar and the Museum of Islamic Art), public art installations (Richard Serra’s monumental desert installation East West/West East at the Brouq Nature Reserve in Zekreet and Tony Smith’s Smoke at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, Olafur Eliasson’s Shadows travelling on the sea of the day in Al Zubarah) and heritage sites (Historic Barzan Towers).
Additionally, the D’reesha Performing Arts Festival began on Sunday and runs until December 17. The festival will feature a range of performances in Arabic and English over the course of seven days, including theatre, visual arts, music, and poetry.
Darb Al Saai was launched in late November as Qatar prepares to celebrate its National Day. From November 25 to December 18, it is presenting 4,500 cultural, historical, artistic, sporting, and entertainment events.
Its main site is in Umm Salal Mohamad’s 150,000 sqm. On December 18 of each year, the people of Qatar observe National Day in remembrance of the State’s founding by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani in 1878.
Completing the World Cup experience of football fans, passengers who’ll be departing through Hamad International Airport or Doha International Airport are also enjoying the Passenger Overflow Area where numerous football-themed and entertainment activities are arranged.
