Doha: Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned Mutahaffiz, ridden by Anas Al Seyabi, registered a remarkable eight-length victory in the feature to claim the Al Mafiar Cup at Al Rayyan Racecourse on Thursday.

The Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained gelding looked invincible in the 1200m Conditions for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians, leaving no chance for competitors to come close to record emphatic victory.

Also during the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) 49th Race Meeting in Al Rayyan, Jassim bin Ali Al Attiyah-owned Keel Bay bounced back to form with victory in the 1200m Handicap (70-90) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds. The Mohammed Ghazali-trained 4YO filly stretched clear of her rivals in the last few strides to win by a length under Abdul Aziz Fahad Al Balushi.

In the 1200m Handicap (0-80) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians, the Rumailah Stud-owned Top Gun came with a late run to take the lead, hold his nearest rival at bay and land the spoils by one and three-quarter lengths, giving trainer Hadi Al Ramzani and jockey Faleh Bughanaim a second winner in the meeting.

Meanwhile, Race 4: the Handicap (0-70) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds saw a quick-fire double by the trainer-jockey combination of Hamad Al Jehani and Szczepan Mazur, who teamed up with the Noora Racing Limited-owned Silks Pass to win the 1100m sprint. The 4YO colt came with a late charge in the final strides to prevail by two and a half lengths.

Earlier, Matara King, carrying the colours of Khaled Ali Al Shahwani, produced an impressive performance in the 1200m Handicap (0-75) for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds. The Al Jehani-trained 4YO colt stretched clear all through the home straight under Mazur to win by three and a quarter lengths at the line.

In second race, Mohammed Abdulla Al Attiya-owned Dhi Qar made good on the promise of his two earlier placed runs, winning his third career-start in the 1900m Maiden for 3-6YO Thoroughbreds under jockey Carols Henrique who steered the Al Ramzani-trained 3YO colt to a one and three-quarter length win.

The opening race of the meeting saw Nasser Owaida Salem Al Hajri-owned Mutanaasiq recording an impressive pillar-to-post victory on his just third career start.

Bughanaim guided the Owaida Salem Al Hajri-trained 5YO to dominate the 1700m Maiden for 4-6YO Local Purebred Arabians by four and a half lengths.
