Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) today announced the launch of its newly enhanced website qm.org.qa, thoroughly redesigned as a gateway to the nation’s cultural landscape, including its growing network of museums, heritage sites, festivals and public art installations. This launch is in line with Qatar Museums’ strategy to harness the power of digital engagement to reach its local constituents and an expanded global audience, including the many tourists to Qatar.
The website provides a virtual look into the world of Qatar Museums. It offers a user-focused experience centred on stories that convey the diversity and breadth of the organisation’s programming, collections and activities and provides tools and information for visiting, whether as an individual, group, school or family. The content on the site will evolve and expand over time, based on audience interests and current events and programming.
New features of the bilingual Arabic and English website include pages that aggregate relevant stories and information for Qatar Museums’ key audience groups, a comprehensive calendar of exhibitions and events across various museum venues, an improved online booking system, streamlined management of Qatar Museums’ Culture Pass membership program, and enhanced mobile device compatibility. Over time, new features will be added, including the development of an interactive platform to showcase the museums' collection virtually.
Ahmad Musa Al-Namla, CEO of Qatar Museums, said: “The launch of Qatar Museums’ redesigned website is part of our wider goal to elevate the role of digital innovation across the organisation. Through this enhanced platform we are pleased to deliver an online destination that provides local, regional and global audiences with authentic and immersive cultural experiences.”
Sheikha Shaikha Al Thani, Acting Deputy CEO of Digital Experience and Audience Engagement, Qatar Museums, said: “In March 2020, Qatar Museums embarked on an ambitious plan to build a Digital Experience team to meet the growing needs of our audiences. This launch signifies a milestone in our digital transformation strategy, undertaken by a diverse team based both here in Qatar and abroad. The team went from onboarding to the launch of this new site in under ten months using an agile and virtual way of working – all during the COVID-19 lockdown. This new site and team give us a great foundation upon which to further expand Qatar Museums’ digital transformation in support of Qatar’s thriving arts and culture scene.”
