Doha: Qatar condemned the bombing that targeted a market in Sadr City, east of the Iraqi capital Baghdad yesterday morning, which killed some 54 people and injured many.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said Qatar condemns this criminal act that targeted innocent civilians, which contravenes all values and principles of humanity. Qatar reiterated firm stance against violence and terrorism in all forms and manifestations, whatever motives and causes. The ministry extended Qatar’s condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. QNA

Cameras proposed in driving test cars

DOHA: Al Raya Driving School has come up with a device whereby cameras fitted in a car trainees use for road tests will videograph their activities for traffic officials to see and evaluate their performance and decide whether the person qualifies for the driver’s licence. The car will have two cameras, one in the front and one inside.
The frontal camera will monitor whether the trainee is following lane discipline while the inside camera will videograph his movements and control of the car and steering wheel and show his mistakes.
Al Raya Driving School officials made a presentation to the traffic department, saying the cameras would come in handy as they would ensure transparency in road tests. If the system is approved by the traffic department, all driving schools may be asked to have cars fitted with such cameras, reports Al Sharq. Videographs could be forwarded to the traffic department for assessing a trainee’s driving skills before issuing a driver’s licence. the peninsula

3 motorists face action over 180kmph

DOHA: The traffic department referred in April three cases of excessive high speed to public prosecution for action. The cases involved motorists driving at speeds exceeding 180km an hour. Since no reconciliation is possible in cases of traffic violations in which the speed of cars involved in more than 180km an hour, the cases were referred for legal action. the peninsula
