DOHA: The Cuban Hospital in Dukhan has officially opened a new patient recovery hostel that will be used for patients who need follow up care and additional recovery time before being fully discharged.
The recovery hostel is part of the existing infrastructure on the Cuban Hospital campus and has been converted from a staff accommodation block.
Patients admitted into the 16-bed unit will require time to fully recover in order to reintegrate back into their normal lives. A typical stay is expected to last between two to three weeks while a patient fully recuperates.
The facility is expected to generally be available for patients who live and work within the Cuban Hospital catchment area throughout the western and northern regions of the country, and will also allow the hospital to free up acute patient beds those who require inpatient medical treatment, said a statement yesterday.
Hamad Medical Corporation Managing Director Dr Hanan Al Kuwari presided over the opening ceremony, which included the unveiling of a wall plaque to commemorate the occasion.
“We see the patient recovery hostel as an essential component of healthcare delivery in the western region of Qatar, where we are seeking to provide a full spectrum of care and support for patients in the surrounding area,” said Al Kuwari.
The opening of this facility follows the September launch of Bayt Al Dhiyafah, Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City which introduced a new model care for Hamad, focusing on healing and rejuvenation.
“Expanding our services at the Cuban Hospital is an essential element in our larger efforts to develop HMC facilities and services, with the ultimate goal of establishing world-class healthcare settings for all in Qatar,” Dr Al Kuwari added.
Chief Executive Officer of The Cuban Hospital, Phil Lowen said the new patient recovery hostel will ensure recovering patients have the best opportunity to regain their health before being discharged from the hospital.
“The new facility offers a comfortable healing environment that provides recovering patients with a relaxing and peaceful recuperation space before being discharged,” said Lowen. The patient recovery hostel is staffed round-the-clock, and a nursing team monitors patient recovery progress, ensuring any prescribed medicines are correctly administered. Doctors are on call and nearby in case of an escalation of any clinical issue.
