DOHA: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has begun sending winter clothing and other materials like blankets and school satchels worth QR3m for Syrian refugees based in Jordan and Lebanon.
RAF has signed a contract with an international company to produce 20,000 blankets (each weighing 2.5kg), 80,000 pieces of warm clothing (jackets for ladies, gents and children) and 20,000 school bags (of small and big sizes), said a RAF release.
The initiative is part of a relief drive titled “warm winter” launched by the RAF in collaboration with Qatar Airways at a cost of QR3m ($795,300) which has been collected through donations from people in Qatar. The initiative aims to protect Syrian refugees from the harsh winter. The manufacturing company has completed the production. The stocks are now being carried to Amman and Beirut. All materials are expected to be delivered for distribution to the beneficiaries by early January, 2016. The distribution to the refugees will be organised in collaboration with the local charity organisations in both the countries, Lebanon and Jordan.
RAF has launched several relief drives for the Syrian people who have been displaced inside the country as also for the refugees who have taken shelter in neighbouring counties in makeshift camps.
