Doha, Qatar: Egyptian and African giants Al Ahly SC and Mexican Concacaf Champions Cup winners Pachuca CF will face-off tonight in the thrilling FIFA Challenger’s Cup game set to be held at Doha’s Stadium 974, with both teams gunning for a place in the December 18 final against Spanish and European champions Real Madrid in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2024.

Pachuca come into the game fresh off a 0-3 thrashing of Brazilian champions and Copa Libertadores winners Botafogo F.R. in the Derby of the Americas last Wednesday at the same venue. 

The Mexican team played a very strong first half, but cranked up the intensity after the half time break and emerged with a much more dominant showing in the second half.

Al Ahly’s Swiss manager Marcel Koller said that he hopes their fans will come out in droves, calling them the team’s “12th player” before saying that the unpredictability of the game of football is what “motivates us [against Pachuca] and to reach the final against Real Madrid."

The Egyptian club's fans are expected to bring their own special flair to the competition, with the Qatar-chapter of their fan association have prepared major events in honor of the team's participation. More can be read about it in this The Peninsula exclusive here.
