Qatar Exchange market cap rises to QR476.77bn

DOHA: The Qatar Exchange’s (QE) main index gained 35.25 points, or 0.40 percent, during the week to close at 8,792.84 points.

Trading value during the week increased by 29.69 percent to reach QR1.31bn compared to QR1.01bn during the previous week. Trading volume decreased by 13.73 percent to reach over 26.06m shares, as against 30.21m, while the number of transactions fell by 8.95 percent to reach 14,574 transactions against the previous week’s 16,007 transactions.

Market capitalisation rose by 0.22 percent to reach QR476.77bn as compared to QR475.71bn at the end of the previous week.

The industrial sector led trading value during this week, accounting for 41.52 percent of the total, followed by the banking and financial services sector, which accounted for 25.65 percent. The consumer goods and services sector ranked third, accounting for 9.86 percent followed by the real estate sector.

The week’s trading volume was led by the banking and financial services sector, which accounted for 26.71 percent of the total, followed by real estate sector (24.42 percent), the industrial sector (22.43 percent) and the transportation sector.

The banking and financial services sector led the week’s trading number of transactions, accounting for 26.9 percent. The industrial sector ranked second at 25.16 percent. This was followed by the real estate sector and the consumer goods and services sector.

Of the 42 listed companies, 24 ended higher this week, while 16 fell and two remained unchanged. Industries Qatar led the trading value during the week, accounting for 31.06 percent of the total, followed by Gulf International Services, which accounted for 7.81 percent. The QNB ranked third at 6.69 percent.

The bourse was down 31.16 points or 0.35 percent to 8,792.84 points yesterday from the previous closing of 8,824.00 points. The volume of shares traded fell to 7,390,989 from 8,199,685 Wednesday, and the value of shares increased to QR448m from QR425m. Among the top losers were Industries Qatar whose share dropped 2.54 percent to QR168.60, Commercialbank lost 0.65 percent to QR77.00, Al Khaleej Takaful fell 1.43 percent to QR44.80 and Islamic Holding was down 1.36 percent to QR32.55. Yesterday, the insurance sector added 0.79 points while the industrial sector dropped 1.44 points and the services sector fell 0.36 points.
