DOHA: Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday launched Lusail, the latest Arabic daily from Dar Al Sharq group, with a focus on business news and analysis.
The launch at St Regis hotel was attended by the Minister of Culture and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of Dar Al Sharq’s board of directors and Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Vice-Chairman of the board and other dignitaries.
H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al Thani, Governor of Qatar Central Bank, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim, Chairman of Qatar Businessmen Association were also present.
The Prime Minister launched the newspaper by giving an electronic signal to start printing the first edition of the newspaper.
Addressing the gathering, Abdullatif Al Mahmoud, CEO of Dar Al Sharq stressed the importance of Qatari newspapers in the development that the country has been witnessing in different areas.
Business newspapers present analysis of economic changes, market fluctuations, company performances and provide the information needed by investors, citizens and the society as a whole, he added.
He raised a question about the relevance of launching a business newspaper at a time the world economy is facing challenges, which may reflect in the local situation as well.
He answered the question saying the motive for Dar Al Sharq board of directors to launch the new daily is its deep confidence in the Qatari economy , seeking to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030 under the wise leadership of the country.
