Fourth Arab Robotics and Artificial Intelligence conference opens

Doha: Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammad Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi yesterday inaugurated the fourth Arab Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Conference at Marriott Hotel yesterday. The three-day conference is being held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani .
Delegations from 17 Arab countries, countries from around world and a group of researchers and specialists in the field of artificial intelligence are participating.
Hassan Abdulla Al Mohammadi, Director, Communications and Media Office at the ministry, said Qatar is exerting efforts to establish a knowledge-based society and has  realised that scientific research, creativity and innovation are the way to achieve progress and well-being.
He said Qatar National Vision 2030 aims to achieve diversification and growth in the non-oil sectors where work is under way to transform Qatar’s economy into a knowledge-based economy.
Reading out the Minister’s speech, Al Mohammadi highlighted the attention Qatar pays to education and encouragement and support to scientific research.
He said the state has attracted some of the most important international universities and colleges in the fields of engineering, technology and medicine to create the necessary environment to develop technologies for commercial usage and support research, innovation and entrepreneurship. He said the state also established Qatar National Research Fund, which supports research projects and Qatar Science and Technology Park which constitutes a core platform for fostering technology projects.
Al Mohammadi also highlighted Qatar’s efforts to spread the culture of the robot, which was introduced by the Ministry in the information technology curriculum. He said Qatar’s students have participated in the National Robot Olympiad and achieved honourable results. Qatar has also hosted the World Olympiad Robot in partnership between the ministry and other organisations in the state. QNA
