DOHA: In celebration of Qatar-China Cultural Year 2016, Chinese Ambassador Li Chen and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker commemorated one of China’s most important festivals, Chinese New Year, with a visit to Qatar Duty Free’s (QDF) traditional Chinese pavilion.
Hany Al Deeb, UnionPay Regional Country Manager, joined them on a tour of the ornate Chinese pagoda at Hamad International Airport (HIA). The pavilion is offering passengers discounts of up to 20 percent, spending rewards and promotions to mark China’s Year of the Monkey. UnionPay and QDF also offer traditional red envelope retail vouchers worth QR100 to customers who purchase items worth QR1,000 ($274) and above with a UnionPay payment card.
Al Baker said: “I am honoured to visit the Chinese Pavilion with the ambassador. The Chinese New Year is an important time for families to gather and enjoy each other’s company. For many families, this means travelling to see their loved ones, enjoy traditional New Year’s feasts and special holiday markets. For those travelling, we wanted to bring a taste of this tradition to their travel experience by again building our version of the holiday market with special products and promotions.”
The pavilion is a striking centrepiece directly behind the Lamp Bear, serving as a festive attraction and a starting point for shopping tours designed for Chinese passengers.
QDF staff, fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and other Chinese dialects, are available on request to lead passengers around HIA, showcasing their favourite brands and products. Passengers will discover especially curated products inside the pagoda which remain in HIA until mid-March.
Savings of up to 20 percent are offered on QDF fragrances, cosmetics, skin care, confectionery, luxury watches, fine jewellery, and other gift items in the pavilion. Additional Chinese New Year discounts of up to 10 percent are available on brands in selected boutiques.
Passengers can choose from duty-free products at amazing prices, including promotions from Tiffany, TAG Heuer, Chopard and Bulgari. Products within the pavilion include Godiva chocolates, Prada perfume, La Prairie skin care, Swarovski jewellery, Harrods bags and Marmalade Market gift items.
