I am very excited and proud at the same time that FIBA Asia has taken the lead in promoting this baby of 3x3 with competitions at the zone level for national teams.
Over the next one month, what we will witness is a festival of basketball where people from all walks of life and cutting across age groups will participate in FIBA Asia 3x3 with the single objective of: JUST PLAY.
These are not necessarily professional players, but there lies the charm of FIBA Asia 3x3.
We will find players who otherwise may have stopped playing, for various reasons, coming back into the playing fold, thereby adding a completely new dimension to the profile of participants.
The other significant aspect of FIBA Asia 3x3 is that, this is a platform for national federations and national teams, who otherwise may find it difficult to get into the mainstream of the sport.
But with FIBA Asia 3x3, we expect all our 44 member national federations in the continent to get active and dynamic in doing the most important thing in basketball: JUST PLAY.
I also thank the board and members of Basketball Sport Association of Thailand for coming forward to host the 1st FIBA Asia 3x3 U18 Championship for Girls and Boys.
Good luck to all the players and participants!
